A Scout should wear their uniform appropriately. The shirt should always be tucked in and orderly. They should understand the importance of representing the entire Scouting America Organization while in uniform. Scouts should enjoy wearing their uniform. They should wear it to patrol meetings, troop meetings, and special troop activities. Adults can follow the Troop's regular adult uniforming guidelines.
All Scouts must wear the official Scouting America Field Uniform (tan shirt with olive green epaulets).
Official uniform pants, shorts, or skorts, caps and Scouts BSA socks are optional. If not using official uniform pants/shorts, then the Scout is expected to wear solid-color blue jeans with no holes or patches.
In general, every Scout should wear their Field Uniform to all Scouts BSA activities, including patrol and troop meetings, unit outings, and any activities done with members of the patrol or troop. When playing sports, going to camp, or participating in other physical activities, our Troop may opt to have the Scouts wear an alternate uniform, such as our troop t-shirt. These are referred to as Activity Uniforms.
Troop leaders should provide advance notice of any occasion when a Scout should wear anything other than the complete uniform. Any time you are uncertain about uniform regulations, ask the patrol leader for guidance.
Here are some tips for wearing the uniform:
DO keep the uniform clean and in good repair. The official uniform is a sturdy, machine-washable garment that will last for years with proper care.
DO be sure to wear the complete uniform. A Scout wearing a uniform with parts missing is not in uniform.
DO NOT wear non-BSA badges, awards, or insignia on the Scouts BSA uniform or make any alterations to the uniform or insignia.
DO NOT mix uniform parts with non-uniform clothing, such as wearing a uniform cap with other clothing. The uniform should be treated as a unit—worn in its entirety, or not at all.
