We are a great group of Scouts and adult leaders dedicated to serving the youth (boys and girls) in our community that are in middle school and high school. Troop 71 is comprised of two troops, our boys' troop having started in 1965 and our girls' troop starting in 2024. Both are sponsored by the American Legion Leon Burson Post #395 in Plano, IL. The members of our Troops take great pride in serving our community for the over 60 years!
Our boy and girl troops are very active, with multiple activity opportunities every month. We meet year-round. Whether it's a campout, service project, summer camp, or even a high adventure activity, we are always active.
Most of our meetings take place at our very own Camp Kishwaukee in Plano, Illinois.
Scouts BSA is the traditional Scouting program for boys and girls aged 11-17 years old. It is one of the oldest youth organizations in the United States, where young people can participate in various outdoor activities like camping, hiking, kayaking, mountain biking, and much more!
We provide fun, enriching experiences that teach life skills in a physically and emotionally safe and inclusive environment. We do this for the youth in our community and the people who care about them. Scouting stands out from and complements other after-school activities through its holistic approach to youth development. Scouting integrates real-world experiences that teach leadership, citizenship, outdoor adventure, community service, and personal growth to build character, instill values, and develop life-long skills, preparing youth for a well-rounded future. All Scouts will receive:
Confidence: Youth are given responsibilities and leadership roles, fostering self-assurance.
Community: Scouts feel a part of the bigger whole through service and citizenship in their communities.
Development: Scouts develop practical skills and personal values that last a lifetime.
Belonging: Every member feels included, valued, and wanted.
Achievement: Scouts get a sense of accomplishment through their activities and recognitions.
The mission of Scouting America is to prepare young people to make ethical and moral choices over their lifetimes by instilling in them the values of the Scout Oath and Law.
Scout Oath
"On my honor I will do my best to do my duty to God and my country and to obey the Scout Law;
to help other people at all times;
to keep myself physically strong, mentally awake, and morally straight."
Scout Law
A Scout is trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent.
Scouting America will prepare every eligible youth in America to become a responsible, participating citizen and leader who is guided by the Scout Oath and Law.
We promise to empower young people with the skills, values, and experiences they need to lead and succeed, in a fun environment where every Scout feels safe, included, and valued.
